Dr. David Pottebaum is a Senior Advisor and Development Economist, serving as a resource for project management and implementation; democracy and governance; conflict mitigation and recovery; monitoring, evaluation, and learning; research; and data analysis initiatives.

He has more than 30 years of technical and managerial experience focusing on institutional and organizational development, university and nonprofit organization capacity strengthening, public administration transparency and accountability, and local governance. He has broad experience designing strategies for large- and small-scale development projects, and in project planning, results-based management, and monitoring and evaluation.

David has served as Chief of Party on six long-term projects in South and Southeast Asia implemented by DAI over the past 20 years, including the design and implementation of more than 1,000 grant awards to local and international nongovernmental organizations. He recently served as the Chief of Party on the Together Activity in Thailand, where he led the design and implementation of conflict mitigation, governance, and capacity-building initiatives. Prior to this, he served as Chief of Party on the Philippines Enhancing Governance, Accountability, and Engagement Project; Thailand Sapan Project; Bangladesh Promoting Governance, Accountability, Transparency, and Integrity Project; Indonesia Support for Peaceful Democratization Project; and Indonesia Program Support Initiative.

Prior to his work with DAI, he worked for five years on the UNDP/Cambodia Resettlement and Reintegration Project and its successor project. Earlier, in Thailand, he worked with the UN Border Relief Operations, managing development and humanitarian relief efforts for villages affected by instability on the Thai-Cambodia border.
